Built for good.

Craithe Place

The architect from Design Base Architects has created a beautiful and energy efficient home in a simple and cost effective way.

Situated on the slopes of the Grampians facing northwest for maximum sun and views, the house was deliberately positioned on the site limiting the need for retaining. The blond macrocarpa cladding with matching decking and slats, and the black Shadowclad of the master bedroom creates a striking contrast between the 2 wings. With its unique roof profile the house has great street appeal and nestles unobtrusively against the hillside.

Inside, Custom Space have created a very smart kitchen with a mix of complimentary natural materials – stylish and practical.  The kitchen island features a maple timber top with engineered stone used elsewhere. Cupboards rather than shelves and a butler’s pantry that can be closed off, combine to create nice clean lines for an open plan living area. The raked ceiling in this space allows maximum light and a sense of spaciousness, enhanced by the neutral colour palette used throughout the home.

An insulated RibRaft concrete floor was chosen for the kitchen with a really nice polish finish. The floor is energy efficient, as well as benefiting from all day sun, warming the living area long after the sun has gone down.

This is a 4 bedroom house incorporating a master ensuite bathroom and a family bathroom, separate toilet and laundry.  This build is a great example of smart design with cost saving techniques in mind, where we were able to deliver a stylish, modern family home with all the essentials, at an affordable price.
